THE JOURNEY OF UPIR AND THE MONSTER GANG

Upir and the Monster Gang, began when my mother, Sharron Thornton, retired after 33 years of teaching school. She was excited to try new things so I suggested that we write a book together. After a while we decided on a cast of monster characters that would be led by a young vampire named, Upir. She wrote the words and I drew the pictures. In 2017 we were ready to publish the book, however my 2 year old daughter was diagnosed with High Risk Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. That put a hold on our publishing dreams. As we went through our cancer journey my daughter had a severe reaction that almost took her life. The doctors saved her however, the stress was too much for my mother. The pressure caused a blood vessel to burst in her head and she quickly went into a coma and died eleven days later.  Life changed and publishing a book became not so important anymore. A few years have paste and our cancer journey has, for the most part, come to an end. My daughter is doing great. Upir and the Monster Gang was always in the back of my mind, but I wasn’t too anxious to start it up again. It was just hanging in limbo. It was like I had just put it in a closet and had just left it there. Until one day I opened the door and there it was staring back at me. So I have picked it up again. I am going through the book and making a few changes here and there. In the mean time, I’ve put up some of the artwork from the book and plan to do more fantasy and monster work for the site. So stay tuned for more artwork and stories as I grow this site and the world my mother and I created.
